We are pleased to announce that the seventh International School on Computer Algebra: COCOA 2011 will take place in June 6-10 2011 at Fakultät für Informatik und Mathematik of Universität Passau (Germany).

The main sponsor of the school is Shell Global Solutions International B.V.

The school will be held the week after MEGA 11 (May 30 - June 3), Stockholm, Sweden.

Following the very successful format we have used for the previous schools, there will be two intensive courses with CoCoA tutorials:

Course 1 Lorenzo Robbiano Hilbert Functions tutors: Anna M. Bigatti, Alessio Del Padrone
Course 2 Werner M. Seiler Involutive Bases tutor: Eduardo Sáenz de Cabezón
The tutors and assistants will be able to provide help for participants in the use of the computer algebra system CoCoA. Students who own laptops are encouraged to bring them for use during the tutorials. The CoCoA system is available for installation by downloading it from the CoCoA web page.

There is space in the school for about 30 participants, who should currently be enrolled in a doctoral programme somewhere in the world or be recent postdoctoral fellows. All students who are accepted for admission to the School will receive a scholarship which will cover the expenses for bed & breakfast at the Rotelinn Hotel and lunches Monday to Friday at the University mensa.

Those wishing to participate in the School should submit a letter of application to either

Lorenzo Robbiano or Martin Kreuzer

The Letter of Application should include the applicant's CV as well as the applicant's reasons for wanting to take part in the school. There should also be included the (email) address of one mathematician who can act as referee for the application.

Applications are evaluated on a continuous basis up to 20th April, 2011 and the final decisions about scholarships will be made before the end of April by the Organizing Committee (A. Bigatti, M. Kreuzer, L. Robbiano). Information about costs, accommodations, method of payment, etc. will come in the next announcement.

The local organizer is Martin Kreuzer.

We look forward to seeing you in Passau this coming June. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to write to us.

Best regards,
Anna Bigatti
